Wildcats built a six-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off South Fremont’s charge for a 10-8 victory on Saturday. South Fremont scored four runs in the failed comeback on a triple by B Hammond, a double by N Powell.
There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Wildcats collected eight hits and South Fremont had seven.
Wildcats fired up the offense in the first inning. Gracie and Sami played ducks on the pond as McCarty Stoddard drove the two in when she singled.
Wildcats took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Gracie Brooks doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Sami Taylor singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Stoddard singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Stoddard led the Wildcats to victory in the circle. The righty surrendered eight runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out seven.
Wildcats racked up eight hits in the game. Brooks, Stoddard, and Taylor all collected multiple hits for Wildcats. Taylor, Stoddard, and Brooks each collected two hits to lead Wildcats
